We here at Appliance World have acquired a time-traveling DeLorean and done a Marty McFly and gone back to the 1950s. Actually, that’s a bit of a lie; we’ve only borrowed the style of the 1950s in the form of the Smeg FAB fridges and freezers and dishwashers without needing to go back in time, allowing us to avoid accidentally messing with history.
And speaking of avoiding going back in time, all of the FAB range from Smeg have been upgraded with very modern technology, making them A, A+ or even A++ rated at times in terms of energy efficiency, which is definitely a lot more efficient than the old clanking pipes and groaning motors that early motorized fridges used, and is almost certainly a lot more efficient than having a proper icebox alone to chill your food in. It’s cheaper too as you don’t need to constantly run out and buy ice to use it.
We love the curvy designs and glamorous décor that these appliances have and think that they’ll give your kitchen that retro look of class and stylistic sleekness, though hopefully the FAB fridges and freezers won’t attract any greasers to use your kitchen as an impromptu milkshake bar and diner, but if they do, you’ll have plenty of space for ingredients thanks to the large interiors to the fridges and freezers and will be able to wash up to 14 place settings in all of the FAB dishwashers we stock.
So for some retro glamour, we can definitely recommend the FAB range from Smeg, as it marries old-fashioned aesthetics with modern machinery to bring the best looking and functioning result to your kitchen. Why not have a look here to see what we stock?

Smeg are well known for their unique design and their latest ’50’s Retro’ line of refrigerators certainly keeps with their design ethos.
Available in the above Union Jack colours, as well as numerous other shades and patterns, you will be transported back to the decade that brought you Frank Sinatra and Jackson Pollock.

Appliances from the 1950s probably won’t have a very good energy efficiency rating – but Smeg’s 50s styled fridges don’t have that problem!
All Fab fridges have been upgraded to at least A+ and in some cases A++. What does this mean? Well, electrical appliances are rated from A-G for how much energy they consume when performing their designed tasks and how well they use that energy too. In recent times, top brands have begun to make even more energy efficient appliances thus raising the bar to A+ and A++; to indicate how truly effective they are at doing their jobs.

The new range of Smeg dishwashers has been designed to be environmentally friendly but still maintain top performance. 
With prices starting at just £299, this range of products combines affordability with eco-friendly features such as the EnerSave option which can save you up to 20% on energy usage by giving more control on the the drying and rinsing cycles.
There’s also a newly developed hydraulic system which means that they use 40% less water than previous models. According to Smeg, the current industry amount of water needed to complete a wash cycle is 14-16 litres and, whilst the previous range of Smeg dishwashers achieved 13-14 litres, the new range is said to require only 10 litres of water per cycle.
As the drying cycle ends, the door is opened automatically and gradually to ensure that less heating energy is used and there is also the daily half-load or Flexizone options which wash fewer dishes and save energy – perfect for smaller households that get through fewer dishes.

Take a gander at Smeg’s new website, dedicated to their iconic retro range.
The site brings attention to their retro range, the FAB series, helping you keep up-to-date with 50s style refrigerators, flueless gas fires, washing machines and dishwashers that still capture the hearts and minds of britons in the 21st century.
Smeg’s UK brand manager, John Davies stated: “[our] new website is all about fun, celebrating our 1950’s inspired product range whilst engaging with our customers.” He added, “we’ve come up with lots of content for our die-hard fans; stories they’ll find entertaining, as well as cool stuff to download, such as Smeg desktop wallpapers. We’ll soon be introducing a new application inviting our customers to upload a picture of their own Smeg 1950’s inspired products in their home.”
There are loads of fun features on the site, but we particularly liked the downloadable 50s style wallpaper – pick your own! We think the Union Jack is the best!
